Row On One Nation One Election: The Union Cabinet approved the proposal of One Nation-One Election on Wednesday (September 18). Opposition parties have expressed displeasure over One Nation-One Election. Now big news is coming out regarding this. The central government has given responsibility to three ministers to talk to the opposition parties on this issue.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Kiren Rijiju, who are part of the Modi cabinet, have been given the responsibility of negotiating with the opposition parties. The central government will try to get the support of all opposition parties on the issue of One Nation-One Election.
10 thousand crore rupees will be spent every 15 years
If Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are held together, the Election Commission (EC) will need about Rs 10,000 crore every 15 years to buy new electronic voting machines. The Election Commission has informed the government that the life of every Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) is 15 years, so in the case of ‘one country one election’, one EVM can be used for only three elections.
11.80 lakh polling stations will be required
The Election Commission estimates that Lok Sabha Elections About 11.80 lakh polling stations need to be set up for the Lok Sabha elections. ECI sources said that if assembly elections are also held simultaneously, then more EVMs will be required in that case. Sources said that at least two sets of EVMs will be required at each polling station. One for Lok Sabha and the other for assembly.
In how many days was the report prepared
The central government constituted a high-level committee under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind on One Nation-One Election on 2 September 2023. After studying the election system of many countries, the members of the committee prepared a report of 18 thousand 626 pages in 191 days.
